GOVERNING BODIES

 

Collegiate Bodies

The University Assembly

 

This is the highest representational body of the University. It consists of the Chancellor, who is also its President, the Secretary General, the Manager and members representing the different sectors of the University.

The Governing Committee

This is the governing body of the University. It sets out the strategies and programmes of the University as well as the guidelines and procedures for their application within the framework of teaching and research programmes, and human and financial resources. It is also responsible for calculating budgets.

The Social Committee

This is the body overseeing the Complutense University's links with society. It is responsible for supervising all the University's financial activities and the performance of its services and also for encouraging external University funding. The Social Committee promotes good relations between the University and its cultural, professional and social environment to ensure the highest standards are maintained.

The Advisory Committee

This is the day-to-day advisory body to the Chancellor and the Governing Committee on academic matters.

Academic Boards

These are the collegiate governing bodies of Faculties and University Colleges or any other comparable existing or projected academic centres. They are presided over by the Dean or the Director.

Department Committees

These are governing bodies for the various Departments and are presided over by their Director.

University Research Institutes Committees

 

Their functions are organised and carried out as set out in the Regulations for the Centres and Structures of the Complutense University, or where applicable, in the corresponding Regulations for Institutes.

 

Individual Office Holders

The Chancellor

The Chancellor is the maximum academic authority in the Complutense University and is responsible for representing, directing, governing and managing the University, developing the courses of action approved by the corresponding collegiate bodies and ensuring that any agreed measures are implemented.

Vice Chancellors

The Vice Chancellors assist the Chancellor in governing the University by coordinating and directing any activities delegated to them by the Chancellor.

Secretary General

The Secretary General also acts as the Secretary to the Governing Committee, to the University Assembly and to the Advisory Committee and acts as witness to the signing of the acts and agreements of the Complutense collegiate bodies.

Manager

The Manager is the head of the Administration and Ancillary Staff and is responsible for managing the University's administration and finances.

Deans and Centre Directors

The Dean or Director represents his/her Centre and is responsible for its management and day-to-day running.

Department Directors

Department Directors are responsible for representing their Departments, for their management and day-to-day running as well as for the coordination of all their activities. They preside over Department Committees and ensure that any measures agreed by the committees are implemented.

Directors of University Research Institutions

The Directors of the University Research Institutions are responsible for representing their institutions as well as for their management and day-to-day running.

 

The University Ombudsman

This University Ombudsman guarantees that the rights and freedoms of University professors, students, and administrative and service personnel are guaranteed in the endeavours of the different university offices and services. The main objective is to contribute to improving the quality and correct functioning of the Complutense University.

The Ombudsman's office is headed by the person designated by the University Assembly. The Ombudsman oversees all university activities, always with respect for the rights and freedom of persons within the framework of due process and law, and specifically adheres to this framework in all actions. The Ombudsman's actions are not subject in any way to the authority of any university entity and are governed only by the principles of independence and autonomy.
